2021 FINA SHORT COURSE WORLD CHAMPIONSHIPS

Alessandro Miressi lowered his own Italian national record while competing in the men’s 100m free semi-finals today in Abu Dhabi.

This evening on day 5 of the 2021 FINA Short Course World Championships, 23-year-old Miressi unleashed a super quick 45.58 to easily land lane 4 for tomorrow night’s final.

His outing represented the only sub-46 result of the field, as the next closest swimmer was that of 2nd seed Joshua Liendo Edwardsthe breakout 19-year-old Canadian who posted 46.29. He’ll flank Miressi tomorrow night on one side while Frenchman Maxime Grousset will be on the other with a semi-final time of 46.35.

For Miressi, the man opened in 22.00 and brought it home in 23.58. Compare that to his previous national record of 45.84 from the European Championships, an outing which included splits of 21.81/24.03 to produce silver there in Kazan.

The Italian’s time tonight fell just .07 outside of the Championships Record Russian Vlad Morozov put on the books in 2014. Additionally, Miressi now becomes the 11th fastest performer in history and 6th fastest European all-time with one more round of racing here to go.
