2021 LEN EUROPEAN AQUATICS CHAMPIONSHIPS

20-year old Roman Mityukov made history on Saturday at the European Championships in more ways than one. His 1:56.33 time was a new Swiss Record, which broke his own record of 1:56.37 done in the semi-finals on Friday.

The swim, which earned him bronze, also gives Switzerland their first ever men’s 200 backstroke medal at the European Championships in either long course or short course.

Mityukov’s swim took .04 seconds off his record from the semi-finals, which in turn broke his January Record of 1:57.39.

While splits are not available from his semi-final swim, we compare his bronze medal to his time of 2019 World Aquatics Championships, where he finished 13th in the semi-final in 1:57.93. This shows that he’s improved in essentially all phases of the swim during the pandemic.
