Two of the Patriots&os; new coaches were assistants at the school.
Freedom High School athletic director Fred Harris announced today the appointment of new varsity head coaches in girls basketball, swimming and softball.Ron Garza, who has served as a freshman and junior varsity coach at Freedom from 2006 to 2011, takes over leadership of the girls basketball team.
He replaces DeAnna Rayam, the former Freedom and East Stroudsburg University standout. She was 4-17 in one season.
In addition to coaching at Freedom, Garza also has been involved with AAU and recreation girls basketball teams.
The Patriots' new swimming coach, Reik Foust, follows in the footsteps of his father, who serves as swimming coach at Liberty High School. He replaces Barb Glaser.
Foust has held three assistant coaching positions -- at Brookside Country Club, Southern Lehigh High School and Catholic University of America in Washington, D.C. He swam four varsity seasons at Catholic University where he was a member of the record-setting Landmark Conference 200-yard freestyle relay.
Another former Freedom assistant, Nora Borger, takes over the softball program. She previously served as assistant JV coach at Emmaus High School and head coach at Cornell High School in Coraopolis, Pa.
Borger played on Northampton Area High School's 1996 state championship team and at Robert Morris University.
She replaces Dennis Hollinger, who compiled a 85-81 record during two four-year stints at Freedom.
