Texas Longhorn Austin Katz, who won the 200 back earlier in the meet, has scratched out of the 100 back. Katz finished second in prelims with a 54.46, way off the current top 6 Americans by a second. Katz already clinched the second-fastest US time in the 200 back for the national team roster.
Also out of finals is Ryan Lochte, who has scratched his 100 back B-final where he finished 15th in prelims. Yesterday he finished 20th in the 100 fly with a 53.36. This morning, Lochte put up a 55.08 in the 100 back.
More notable scratches include Addison Smith out of the 400 free junior D-final. Smith’s previous D-final was in the 400 IM, where she placed 32nd with a 4:55.46. Likewise, Zoe Bartel and Lilly Higgs have also opted out of the 100 breast D-final. Bartel swam the 200 breast earlier and finished with a 2:30.14 in the B-final, good enough for 15th.
Charlotte Hook has scratched her spot in the 100 back D-final as well. Hook is currently on priority 2 status for the 200 fly, and with the number of double-qualifiers increasing, Hook has a shot at swimming the event in Budapest.
