Sprint News 6/2/2012: Ally Joins Club Wolverine; Cali Coach Arrested on Sexual Assault Charges

Bradley Ally is the latest swimmer to join the elite postgrad group at Club Wolverine in Ann Arbor under the direction of Mike Bottom. The Barbados native is a two-time Olympian, and his biggest international success is a bronze medal from the 2007 Pan Am Games in the 200 IM. But as a collegiate swimmer at Florida from 2005-2009, he really made his mark on the swimming community; he was the 2009 NCAA Champion in the 200 IM and broke the NCAA Record in the process, and was a perfect 12-for-12 in All-American honors in individual events in his four-year career. He took a big chunk of time off in the fall, but returned to racing at the Indy Grand Prix in March, under the banner of unattached Club Wolverine. He's looked pretty good since coming back, with a 2:01.73 in the 200 IM at the UltraSwim Grand Prix in Charlotte…

…Another swim coach has been arrested on charges related to inappropriate sexual behavior, as Aragon High School coach Josh Trato was arrested according to the San Francisco Chronicle. The charges included one count of sexual assault on a minor and one count of lewd acts with a minor. It's not clear whether the student in question was a swimmer or not, but Trato holds a job outside of his duties as a swim coach. Aragon High School had a very young team on the girls' side, and placed 29th at the CIF Central Section Championships this year; the boys placed 42nd. Trato is not a USA Swimming member, so the organization has no grounds on which to ban him, but would have that option open if he applied for membership at a date in he future…
